Avtec’s Mobile Dispatch Console Solution Field Tested in Two Locations: Scout with Ranger Over LTE Application Selected for Mobility, Reliability

August 04, 2014 | by Tiffany Rushton

Avtec, a leading provider of pure Internet protocol dispatch console systems, announced today that its Scout with Ranger™ LTE application – a mobile dispatch solution for fire, police, and EMS chiefs – has completed field testing in two locations.

New Orleans, La. (Aug. 3, 2014) – Avtec, a leading provider of pure Internet protocol dispatch console systems, announced today that its Scout with Ranger LTE application – a mobile dispatch solution for fire, police, and EMS chiefs – has completed field testing in two locations. Developed for portability and ease-of-use, Scout with Ranger offers a concentration of features that allows users to control and monitor up to four radio talk groups simultaneously, providing improved situational awareness during an emergency. It is a streamlined alternative to carrying multiple radios onsite or in a command vehicle. Scout with Ranger runs on a Windows tablet or laptop, is Bluetooth® compatible, and works over a cellular 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network.

“We installed a Scout with Ranger console running on a laptop over LTE in a mobile command vehicle for mobility, so the fire chief can communicate directly with his dispatch center when he is out in the field,” said Eastern Communications’ Data Systems Manager Eric Lustig, the Avtec channel partner who managed the deployment. “Avtec hit a home run with this concept.”

“We drove the mobile command vehicle all over the region with seamless operation through different cell towers’ coverage, and the Scout console connections never failed,” said Lustig.

Another installation includes a fire department supervisor who deployed Ranger on a remote desktop PC located within the organization’s enterprise network. The remote console is being used to monitor its public safety radio system. “This is one of Ranger’s key benefits: it functions as a remote ‘soft radio’ to access the radio system via optical fiber, without the need for long runs of transmission cabling,” said Todd Stacy, Project Manager for Marcus Communications, the Avtec Elite Solutions Provider that installed the system.

Avtec has shipped additional Scout with Ranger mobile console systems with deployments scheduled for completion by Q4 2014.
